Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has abolished the concept of ATKT (allowed to keep term) in engineering and pharmacy courses in a bid to improve the quality of technical education.
“We have abolished the concept of ATKTs in engineering and pharmacy courses. No student will be promoted to the next semester without clearing all the subjects. However, we have introduced a remedial examination to give the student a second chance at clearing the exam,” a GTU official said.
GTU in-charge registrar N N Bhuptani said, “It is necessary to implement tough rules especially for engineering and pharmacy students to improve the quality of technical education. Every student has to concentrate on each semesters, as we do not promote any student who fails in two subjects to the next semester.”
“However, they will be allowed to take a remedial examination. Only after passing in all the subjects, will the students be allowed in the next semester. We will complete the examination procedure including remedial examination within the stipulated time,” Bhuptani added.
My friends,
I would like to ask a question. Just by passing the theory exams, the quality of education increase. Gujarat Technological University removes the importance of PRACTICAL EXAM. That will not decrease the quality of technical education?
A strong belief is that "For technical education, practical knowledge is most important. Even in each semester or year there will be a compulsory industrial training for all engineering students. There should be a syllabus for practicals of all technical subjects. Most of the reputed univeristy give high importance to practical knowledge in thier syllabus.
